2021-2022 STATE SELECTED TECH EVENTS
STATE OBSERVERS
I have been asked about seats for state observers. At this time, there are no observer seats available. The first step is to collect the $250 deposit from all participants in the pieces above by 11/10. Next, I need to wait to find out if Lightning Thief is selected for state. We won’t know that until 11/15 at the earliest.
At that time, if Lightning Thief is selected, I will need the remaining LT students not on the list above to make their $250 payments immediately (within 48 hours). (You may prepay now if you wish.) If Lightning Thief is not selected, I will announce how many seats are available on the bus and take reservations on a first-paid, first-served basis, with priority given to 8th graders first. The fee to attend as an observer will be the same as to attend as a participant. Students who observed at districts are ineligible to observe at State. (You must have participated in an event. This is a state rule.)
PARENT CHAPERONES/ATTENDEES
I appreciate that many of you wish to attend the State festival with us. I do not have room for all the parents who wish to chaperone to do so. I will reach out to you if I need to ask for this assistance. Chaperoning the state trip requires Level 2 fingerprint volunteer clearance from the district. We have many teacher/staff and previously cleared L2 chaperones already. I will advise as we move forward if/when it's time to apply for that clearance. The request for the appointment must come from the school (because the school covers the fee). HOWEVER, chaperoning is not the only way to attend the festival as a parent/guardian/family member.
The festival does sell DAY PASSES. This year they will be sold IN ADVANCE ONLY. There will be no passes sold on site at the festival, so you must order them BEFORE I register. They are $50 per day for the 3-Day Festival. That’s $150 if you wish to attend all 3 days. I have no way of knowing which day which events of ours will perform until long after registration closes and a schedule is made. You may choose to wait to make this decision until after we know the Lightning Thief decision, but if you wish to purchase day passes, I will need those funds within 48 hours of the Lightning Thief announcement. I am going to ask POPP to organize & manage this collection for me. When they are ready, we will announce PayPal, Cashapp, and any other payment options. Single day passes may be used for any of the 3 days. Remember – if you wish to attend all 3 days, each person with day passes will need 3. (Please note that all PayPal purchases include a processing fee.) FYI: The State Festival takes place at the Orlando Convention Center.
